Comodo Announces Unified Communications Certificates

New SSL certificate type provides flexibility, convenience, and value in securing server to server and server to client communications on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 installations.

Jersey City, NJ (March 27 2007) Comodo, a global Certification Authority and leading provider of Internet and trust assurance management solutions announced the availability of Unified Communications (UC) certificates for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. These new certificates enable enterprises using Exchange Server 2007 for their messaging infrastructure to use a single SSL certificate to secure multiple fully qualified domain names on a single host/IP address. UC certificates are a more cost effective solution than single certificate purchases and help simplify management processes by allowing server administrators to consolidate all of their secure domains onto one certificate.

Comodo UC certificates allow multiple hostnames to be entered in the subjectAltName extension of an X.509 certificate which means Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 customers can secure up to 100 FQDN's on a single IP address. Such functionality is particularly beneficial to enterprises with large Exchange Server 2007 installations spread across multiple domains and servers that need to deploy SSL security on all SMTP, POP/IMAP communications.

For example, one UC certificate can be used to secure the following Exchange Server 2007 domains:

  • mycompany.com
  • owa.mycompany.com
  • mail.mycompany.com
  • smtp.mydomain.com
  • autodiscovery.mycompany.com
  • mail.mycompany-internal.com

Comodo UC Certificates retail at $199 and include SSL security for three fully qualified domain names. Additional domain names may be secured for an additional $29.95 per domain (up to a maximum of 100). Prior to certificate issuance, Comodo validates each organization to establish business legitimacy and ownership of all named domains.

"We are delighted that we can collaborate with Microsoft to extend security, value, and convenience to Exchange Server 2007 customers", said Melih Abdulhayoglu, President and CEO of Comodo, "Highly competitive per-domain pricing makes Comodo UC certificates a more cost effective and efficient means of securing multiple hostnames. Deploying a UC certificate means that Exchange Server 2007 customers need not worry about the technical efforts, cost, and time often associated with managing multiple individual certificates."
